What gave you idea to do this site?
Even though hosting prices are falling and there are now many reasonable providers out there, I've come to notice just how many webdesigners are still struggling with free websites. As a owner of several small sites myself - sites with looooads of additional space that I was highly unlikely to ever fill up - I very early on opened up my site for hosting applications so that I would be able to help someone out as well as make the most of my disk allocation. I'm certainly not alone with this and I know that there are hundreds of other small personal site owners that are also happy to host sites - but the problem is finding out who offers hosting and who is looking for it - hence the birth of GWYG!

Do you make any money from this?
Nope, not a penny. I don't even have adverts. :)

What scripts do you use to power this site?
The site XHTML was hand-coded and written in Notepad, and designed in Photoshop CS2.

It's powered using WordPress and a great plugin called WP Members, but I had to modify it quite extensively to get it to do what I needed. The rest of the functionality was written personally by me for GWYG.

I also use CodeGrrl's PHPMail to power the removal forms.

What can I do to help?
Simply spread the word! If you're using GWYG both now or in the past, link back to here and ensure that other people too get to discover GWYG! I'm also always, always grateful for site ideas/ suggestions and icons and codes!

What's MySQL and how do I know if I need it?
MySQL is a popular open source database. Many PHP scripts now require a MySQL database to power them (this site uses it!), so if you're looking to have a weblog powered by a blog software like MovableType or Wordpress - or you're looking to run a fanlisting with a script like PHPFanBase or Enthusiast - chances are that you will require some MySQL space.

Why don't you give listees a chance to say more about themselves?
Because, following a little research, it seemed that people didn't need it! The point of this site is to give a quick and easy listing for people actively looking for host/ees - so having to scroll through dozens of pages to do so isn't necessary. Because of this, I've kept the directory as simple as I can to make the site as easy to browse as possible!

I don't agree with a host/ees decision. What can I do?
Nothing. I cannot force any to host or be hosted by you. All I suggest is that you move on and try and find an alternative.

Can I be hosted by you?
No, I'm afraid that I've stopped hosting at my own personal domains now. But don't worry - there are loads of other hosts to pick from right here at GWYG!
